a) J.S. Bach - Two contrasting movements from one of these works:

  • Sonata No. 1 in G minor, BWV 1001 (originally for solo violin)

  • Partita No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1004 (originally for solo violin)*

  • Suite No. 4 in E flat, BWV 1010 (originally for solo cello)

  •  Suite No. 5 in C minor, BWV 1011 (originally for solo cello)*

  •  Suite No. 6 in G, BWV 1012 (originally for solo cello in D)

* One movement only if Chaconne from Partita in D minor No 2, BWV 1004 or Preludium from Suite for Cello No 5 in C minor, BWV 1011 are selected.

b) One caprice by N. Paganini or H. Wieniawski of candidate’s own choice.

2nd round 38 min

a) Choose One from the following:

  •  Franz Schubert - Arpeggione Sonata in A minor D 821 

  •  Robert Schumann - “Märchenbilder” op. 113

  •  Paul Hindemith - Sonata op. 11 No. 4 

  •  Rebecca Clarke - Sonata for viola

b) A virtuoso piece (to be played from memory) from the following works:

  • George Enescu - “Concert piece”

  •  Carl Maria von Weber - “Andante e Rondo Ungarese” in C minor 

  •  Johann Nepomuk Hummel - “Potpourri” Op.94

  •  Niccolo Paganini - Sonata per la Grand Viola MS 70
